Mastering Name Pronunciation in Canvas

Incorporating Namecoach into your Canvas courses champions the significance of diversity, equity, and inclusion within your classroom. By giving precedence to accurate name pronunciation, you foster a profound sense of belonging among your students and cultivate an atmosphere of respect.

Namecoach is integrated with Canvas, so please login to Canvas when you need to access Namecoach.

Accessing the Account Profile recorder

By recording your name in your Account Profile, you ensure its availability in all of your courses. This empowers students and fellow faculty members with constant access to your accurate name pronunciation.

1. Navigate to your Account on the Global Navigation Menu and select Namecoach Account Level Integration.
   
2. Click on the Record Name button.
   
3. Follow the instructions to record your name by Phone, Web Recorder, or Uploader (see detailed instructions below).

Creating a Canvas Course recording

Crafting your pronunciation recording directly within a Canvas course provides the flexibility to upload recordings on a course-by-course basis. This empowers you to either upload distinct recordings or select which courses you want your pronunciation available in.

1. Navigate to a Canvas course.
2. Click on the Namecoach button in the Course Navigation menu.
   
3. Click on the Record Name button.
   
4. Follow the instructions to record your name by Phone, Web Recorder, or Uploader (see detailed instructions below).

Exploring recording methods

You can choose between the Phone, Web Recorder, or Uploader option to record your name.

1. Phone. Enter your phone number in the box provided and select Call Me Now. Namecoach will call your phone and provide you with instructions. You will be able to listen to your recording and re-record as you wish.
   After you complete the call, return to the Namecoach page in Canvas and click Submit and Finish to save your recording.
   
2. Web Recorder. Click on the Record button and wait for the prompt before speaking.
   After you record, you’re able to listen to your recording and re-record if you’d like. You can stop the recording, then click Submit and Finish to save your recording.
   
3. Uploader. Click on the Uploader button. Browse for or click and drag your “.mp3”, “.mp4”, “.m4a” or “.wav” file into the appropriate box.
   After you upload the file, click Submit and Finish to save your recording.
   

Master your students’ names with ease

Once your students have recorded their names with Namecoach, you’ll be able to listen to them by accessing the class roster. To do so, simply click the play button next to each name and start practicing!

You can also search for an individual, re-arrange the number of entries shown on the page, sort the names differently, or view any unrecorded names by using the menu options.

Both faculty and students can listen to the audio recordings by following these steps:

1. Click on Namecoach in the Course Navigation Menu.
2. Click on the purple play button to the right of each person’s name.
